Habits That Changed My Life as an Online Student

Welcome back to my blog! My name is Qween, and I blog about everyday life. Except if you're living under a rock, I'm very sure you've heard about the outbreak of the Coronavirus and how it has affected literally everything from travel, business, to even education. Today I'm going to be sharing some tips that helped me stay afloat of my school work despite the drastic change in the system.

1) Cell-Phone-Free-Mornings: I used to wake up and grab my phone first thing in the morning, but recently, I challenged myself to not touch my phone until 10:00 am and I started noticing the positive results. It put me in a better mood, made me less anxious and stressed out, and I spend less time on my phone during the rest of the day. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who might feel addicted or overwhelmed by their phones.

2) Taking out time to do recreational activities: The week before my finals, I noticed that I was getting tired frequently so I decided that I was going to go out for walks in the park every evening. Whether it's yoga, running, working out, or going to the gym, doing something that takes your mind off stress, and gives you a few minutes to clear your head and focus, could go a long way. Remember that your mental health is just as important during exams.

3) Eating healthy: As a college student, planning meals ahead and making sure to stick to them is very important. It could be really hard to eat healthily during school session especially if you live in the dorms. However, eating healthy is important because it helps to improve your overall performance during the day. Homemade meals are not only cheaper but also provide better nutrition when compared to junk food. I would usually plan all my meals for the entire week on Sunday so that if there are any food items I need that I don't already have, I can get them from the grocery store immediately.

4) Clean up for 10 minutes before starting your day: I would always clean up my study desk before I start studying. It helps me ensure that no distractions are lying around and keeps me more focused. Cleaning up also serves as a source of motivation to me.

5) Reach out to your professors as often as possible: I cannot possibly overstress this. Your professors have office hours when you can meet with them virtually. You must maximize this opportunity. They can provide you with any form of assistance you need, but unfortunately, a lot of college students don't use this privilege wisely. Feel free to email them any questions you have and they'd be more than happy to help.

6) Make a dedicated study plan and try to stick with it weekly: Create a dedicated studying corner that is free from distractions, where you can have your lectures and alone study time. Reach out to other students to study together and ask any questions that you may have.

7) Reliable internet source: As obvious as this might sound, your online classes need a stable internet supply. I cannot tell you how many people were absent in some of my classes because their WiFi cut out or something went wrong during connection. Imagine studying hard for an exam and just when you're about to start, your laptop is having connectivity issues. Little things have to be dealt with a soon as they are noticed and if you run into any issues, remember you can always email your professors and in most cases, they would work something out as a replacement for you. Remember, communication is key.

These were a few of the tips that contributed to helping me stay motivated while also leading me to a better lifestyle in online learning. I hope you liked this post, make sure to like and subscribe to my blog for more posts like this one. I'll see you in the next post, bye!
